Happy Middle of January

Here we are in the middle of January, 2014 and while many have been busy writing posts about resolutions, organizing, or their theme word for the year, I’ve been, well kind of all over the place.

First I was hibernating.  I really just let myself crash after the holiday madness and let laziness take over.  And those resolution things? I don’t believe in making resolutions because I like to be realistic and honest with myself.  I know I won’t stick to them.  That theme word of the year? Tried that.  Didn’t stick to that either.  Organizing? Exercising? Yeah, I don’t need a new year to remind me that those are two things that have not seen the light of day in my life in way too long.  Anyway, back to hibernating it was.

Then there was the difficulty getting back on a schedule because instead of going back to school there were snow days, delayed openings, and just general weather craziness.  Mother Nature really seems to be a bit crazy these days.  60 one day and single digits the next.

Of course when it was finally time to start cracking the whip and join the real world again,  I needed to follow through on deadlines for another site I write for.  You can’t land a campaign and then just let it fall to the wayside, after all.

And, there is this little pesky issue I call my body.  It refuses to believe that it isn’t 97 years old.  While I do have a birthday at the end of the month, I assure you, contrary to evidence suggesting otherwise, it is not my 98th birthday.  I’ve been having back issues for a while now, which led to some nerve pain issues, which led me to the doctor begging for relief.  However, apparently in order to get an MRI these days, you need to give a sacrificial lamb, submit DNA, promise your first born to science, and then stand on your head while singing I’m a Little Tea Pot.  Ok, not really.  But you do need to go through treatment first because you know, it makes perfect sense to treat something before you know what you are treating.  So, I’ve been going to physical therapy 3 times a week which is time consuming.  I might not mind so much if I felt it was actually doing anything. I had lumbar x-rays yesterday and I see the doctor on Thursday where I will beg for the madness to stop.

To top it off, I’ve been having some problems with my eye for the past week or so.  I went into the eye doctor last evening and after a very uncomfortable eye exam to make sure that the huge cobweb floater I have developed hasn’t caused any retinal tears or detachment, he basically be told I’m old.  I swear to you, he used the word old when I questioned him about what was going on with me.  Way to deliver a blow to a late-thirty-something mom who already feels twice her age.

Now here I am, January 14, half way through the month without having posted since before Christmas.  Now that you are caught up with me, what is going on with you?

  1. I’m sorry for the 90-something-like issues you’re having, I swear this wacky weather we’ve been having does NOT help. Except for my son’s birthday (and now yours!) I have never been a big fan of January. On the other hand, I do believe a lunch date is in order. Hang in there, my friend!

    • No, the wacky weather does NOT help and tends to throw agonizing headaches into the mix. Lunch, with cocktails of course, is definitely in order soon!

  2. Sounds like a complete do-over would be nice! Hope your health issues go away and you are left with nothing but sunny skies. This dreadful weather is a real mood breaker.
