After doling out the usual no TV punishment (a great day for it too since his favorite show was on that evening), I decided that wasn't enough in this case. I'm tired of the constant attitude towards his sister so I decided to make his punishment a little more personal. While he was spending his time with no TV I had him write a sincere apology letter to her and list 10 nice qualities that she possesses.
The apology note was a little less than sincere but I let it slide. What got me was the list of qualities he listed.
My Sister is....
- caring
- loving
- kind
- helpful
- dependable
- friendly
- brave
- clean
- reverent
- trustworthy
- obedient
- cheerful
A Scout is...
- trustworthy
- loyal
- helpful
- friendly
- courteous
- kind
- obedient
- cheerful
- thrifty
- brave
- clean
- reverent

Oh that's hilarious!! Smart kid you got there :) Good luck. We are in the somewhere-between-teen-and-tween nasty zone here, and she only JUST turned 10.
ReplyDeleteSome times he is too smart for MY own good. He probably thought he was golden because he got the list past his father (the non-scout).
DeleteSuch a cute story (even if it wasn't so cute when it happened). How about this - for every time he's mean to his sister, he has to give her one compliment. Maybe it will be a little reminder that even if she's on his nerves, she's still pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteOh, I got a good chuckle out of it, I just didn't let him see me laughing. I've been trying to enforce the doing something nice for his sister every day. I'm hoping that one day it will become a habit.
DeleteWhat an adorable story! He does get props for being a great scout though:)
