Where does a decade go?

Ten years ago today I welcomed my first child into the world, a healthy baby boy of 8 pounds 8 ounces.  Each day was a new challenge and delight.  I marveled at how he was constantly changing and I reveled in the fact that I was a mother.

One day when I was admiring my baby boy I must have blinked.  Suddenly that bundle of baby boy is only about an inch shy of being eye-to-eye with me.  His foot is larger than mine and he is a force to be reckoned with on the soccer field. 

Each day is still a challenge and a delight but in a much different way.  He is still changing before my eyes, both physically and emotionally.  He is turning into a wonderful young man and I am proud of who he is.  He has a strong compassionate side and is a loyal friend.  He is protective of his siblings (when he isn't the one reigning terror on them!).  He is intelligent and puts effort into his school work.  He takes interest in the world around him. 

Dear Bud,

I want to wish you the happiest of birthdays.  I hope that all of your wishes and dreams come true.  I am proud of you and proud to be your mother.  I love you more than you could ever imagine.  I still can't believe you are 10!
