Our families ultimate vacation would be to leave the kids behind with the grandparents and hubs and I taking off for some secluded resort where we can lounge around and have drinks brought to us all day long. The only time I would get up would be for a little dip in the pool to cool off. Just kidding. Sort of.
Actually, we had an amazing family vacation over the summer to Bar Harbor, Maine where we explored Acadia National Park. Each day we woke up and were greeted by the most wonderful weather. We laced up our hiking boots and picked a new trail to tackle. It was so beautiful I didn't want to leave. And since I feel like we didn't even make a dent in the park, I can't wait to go back.
On the way home we began thinking about our next destination. I'm proud to say that while my kids love places like Disney World, when you ask them their favorite vacation they will tell you places like Washington D.C. and Acadia National Park. I LOVE that! So as we were trying to brainstorm new places, Disney did not make it to the top 5.
Do you know what did? National Parks. Our ultimate family vacation would be to another National Park where we can explore nature, learn the area, soak in the scenery and ultimately, just be together. While hiking those trails, we made up stories, talked about life, sang songs, and took in nature. Things we can't do in a busy theme park and we want more of it. My oldest son wants to go to the Everglades and see a gator. He'd also like to make it to the redwood forests. We'd like to see the Grand Canyon, explore Yosemite and Yellowstone. We'd like to see the country at it's finest.
Tell me, what is your ultimate family vacation?

This is great that your family wants to see more of their own country at its natural best. I love Disneyland bug there is something special about being out in the freshair together. I loved camping holidays growing up, it was such an adventure!
ReplyDeleteI think that's great that they love the exploring vacations as much as you do. I would love to get to the red wood forest - watched a special about it no to long ago and have been dreaming of taking my kids ever since! When you guys go on vacations that you hike...do you camp or stay in a cabin?
